Tony Ferguson Upset That Flyweights Aren’t Headlining UFC 216

Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee are battling for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title in the main event of UFC 216.

Despite his main event status, the lightweight contender isn’t happy that a flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Ray Borg doesn’t get top billing.

Jon Jones: Tom Aspinall Is Such An Asshole That I Don't Want To Do Business With Him

“I was upset, I was upset,” Ferguson said at a UFC 216 media lunch. “I was gonna write Johnson a note and tell him and be like, ‘Hey man, I feel f-cking terrible for you.’ Shit, I’m not getting any (PPV) points on this stuff. So you know what, why? Why would you make me the main event? I’m an entertaining fighter. I’m gonna be always the main event.”

Johnson and Borg were originally set to headline UFC 215 last month, but the fight was cancelled after Borg came down with an illness.

Ferguson also believes that the flyweight title bout should be in the top spot because it is the right thing to do.

“What I’m saying is something along the lines of righteousness and right rankings and virtue has got skipped,” Ferguson said. “I’m here to remind everybody.”

UFC 216 takes place on Saturday, October 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
