Longtime UFC veteran Fabio Maldonado seriously injured his hand after an accident in his home this past Saturday.
The Brazilian fighter cut an artery in his hand and nearly died, but underwent emergency surgery and was promptly released from the hospital the following day.
Maldonado issued a statement to MMA Fighting about the situation:
“I cut an artery and underwent a quick surgery,” Maldonado said. “I'll get it checked again in a week. I can't (train or fight) for three months."
After the situation was resolved, the fighter posted a few graphic photos on Instagram to show people exactly what he went through.
Fabio spent a total of six-plus years in the UFC, earning a record of 5-6-0 in the promotion and was cut after a loss to Corey Anderson at UFC Fight Night 77. The fighter’s biggest fight to place at Fight Night Global 50, where he suffered a controversial decision loss to Fedor Emelianenko. Maldonado last competed at Fight Nights Global 60, where he defeated Abdul-Khamid Davlyatov by first round TKO.
