Vitor Belfort Claims He’s Fighting Alain Ngalani In One Championship Debut

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort signed with One Championship last year, but he hasn’t made a promotional debut at this time.

It looks like the fighter is a step closer to that promotional debut as Belfort claims that the first One Championship bout will come against Alain Ngalani.

“I like it,” Belfort said to Asian MMA (via Alexander K. Lee of MMA Fighting). “He’s a very tough competitor and very skilled and very strong. A big man. That’s what I’m looking for, for a good challenge.”

Ngalani is 4-5-0-1NC as a professional MMA fighter and he hasn’t picked up a victory in over two years now.

The potential opponent is a better fighter than the record suggests, but Belfort is still focused on his own skills and strengths heading into the fight.

“It’s hard to see yourself in situations,” Belfort said. “The way I describe it, I’m focused on what my skills and what my strength is, not where my weakness is. That being said, I’m focused on Belfort, not on him.”

One Championship recently announced that they won’t be running events next month, so June is the earliest month for Belfort’s promotional debut.
