Yair Rodriguez Injured, Out Of Headlining Fight Against Zabit Magomedsharipov

Yair Rodriguez has suffered an ankle injury and will no longer fight Zabit Magomedsharipov at UFC Fight Night: Magomedsharipov vs. Rodriguez.

Milenio first reported the news. UFC President Dana White later confirmed the injury during the Dana White’s Contender Series Episode 27 post-fight media scrum.

“Yeah, he had a high ankle sprain and a fracture, so he is out,” White said (via Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com).

The report from Mileno says that Rodriguez would like to get the fight against Magomedsharipov rescheduled, but that has not been confirmed at this time.

Ariel Helwani of ESPN is reporting that Calvin Kattar is willing to step in on short notice and if Magomedsharipov accepts. Kattar vs. Magmomedsharipov would be a rematch from UFC Fight Night Moscow. That time, the Dagestani fighter emerged victorious in a competitive scrap. Kattar currently sits at #6 in the UFC featherweight division rankings, one spot behind Rodriguez and three behind Magomedsharipov.

UFC Fight Night: Magomedsharipov vs. TBA is set for Saturday, August 29. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
