UFC Flyweight Champion Nicco Montano won the belt when she defeated Roxanne Modafferi by decision at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale.

Montano competed at the event with a badly injured foot and now the fighter is getting her injury fixed up through surgery.

“I need to have surgery,” Montano told MMA Weekly. “I definitely need to get that fixed before anything else – the sooner the better.”

There is no time frame as to when the flyweight champion is going to be back, but more should be known after the surgery is complete.

The fight also credited the cortisone shot that was received leading into the fight as the reason for getting through the encounter.

“The only reason why I was able to do anything that night was because of the cortisone shot,” Montano said. “My range of mobility the night before was crap. I thought I wasn’t going to be able to fight. I was watching my fight, and that’s why my level changes were so high, because I still can’t roll over my left toes.”

Bad luck seemingly affected all who were supposed to compete for the flyweight title because Montano’s original opponent in Sijara Eubanks pulled out of the fight due to the effects of the weight cutting.
