Priscila Cachoeira Suffered Serious Knee Injury At UFC Fight Night Belem

Priscila Cachoeira made her UFC debut at UFC Fight Night Belem, suffering an ultra violent submission loss to Valentina Shevchenko.

The loss wasn’t the only thing Cachoeira suffered because her coach says the Brazilian suffered a serious knee injury as well.

“She tore her meniscus and ACL in the beginning of the first round, the first time they engaged, and it went all downhill from that moment,” Cachoeira’s coach Tiago Okamura said to MMA Fighting. “We couldn’t do anything.”

It is unknown just how long the injury will keep Cachoeira out of action, but more should be known after the competitor gets the injury treated.

Despite suffering the injury early in the fight, one thing the coach says is that Cachoeira would never consider quitting.

“‘Pedrita’ is fearless, she would never quit. She never considered quitting. The world hasn’t seen the real ‘Pedrita’ fight. They saw an injured girl fighting the best pound-for-pound female fighter in MMA, Valentina Shevchenko. Maybe she would lose even if she was 100 percent, but the fight would be a bit better,” says coach Giliard Parana.

The fight drew controversy due to referee Mario Yamasaki refusing to step in and stop the one-sided beating.

While the fight marked Cachoeira’s UFC debut, it was also the UFC Women’s Flyweight Division debut for Shevchenko.
