Report: Chris Jericho's Return Is A One-Time Thing

Chris Jericho's return to WWE is not meant to be a long one.

Jericho's return to SmackDown Live was meant to be a one-time event, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Jericho returned to SmackDown Live on the July 25 episode to get his United States title rematch.

Jericho got his rematch in the form of a triple threat match against champion Kevin Owens and AJ Styles, who was also invoking his rematch clause from when Owens beat Styles at the Battleground pay-per-view. Jericho defeated Owens to win the title at the Payback pay-per-view, but then lost it to Owens on the following episode of SmackDown Live two days later.

The surprise was made in order to pop the live crowd and was used as a way for Styles to get back the U.S. title without Owens losing on television. Jericho is not being advertised for any other shows or pay-per-views after his sudden appearance. His latest book, “No is a Four Letter Word,” is coming out in a few weeks and he’ll be starting a publicity tour for the book at that time.

Jericho is a former two-time United States champion, both of those reigns taking place in 2017.
