Rose Namajunas Says Joanna Jedrzejczyk May Not Get Immediate Rematch

Rose Namajunas became the UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion when she scored a first round finish over Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 217.

The former champion has stated she wants an immediate rematch and Namajunas says she may not be getting one.

“I don’t think so (about Jedrzejczyk getting an immediate rematch),” Namajunas said on The MMA Hour. “I don’t know how that could … anything is possible, right? A first-round knockout and she tapped due to strikes. Even though she was still stumbling afterwards, there was still some part of her that tapped. Not a fluke.”

Namajunas isn’t the only new champion to say the former champion won’t get an immediate rematch because UFC Bantamweight Champion said the same thing about his UFC 217 opponent in Cody Garbrandt.

Now that she is the champion, it is Namajunas who is going to sit back and wait to see who calls her out first.

“I thought about the idea of the rest of the division and I wonder who’s gonna call me out and things like that,” Namajunas said. “But I haven't really thought about who I want to fight yet, no. All I’ve been thinking about the next step — other than decompress, things like that and have a little fun and see the rest of my friends and family — is just making sure our team is tight and solid.”

At this point, the only fighter to say they want a shot at the new champion is Jessica Andrade.
