Patricky Pitbull recently defeated former UFC Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson in the main event of Bellator 183, then proclaimed that he should be getting the next shot at the Bellator MMA Lightweight Title.
However, the Bellator MMA President in Scott Coker says the next title shot is going to former champion Michael Chandler.
“We’ve been waiting for Chandler to fight Primus again,” Coker told MMA Junkie.
Chandler lost the title to Brent Primus at Bellator 180 after suffering an injury, neither the former or current champion have fought since that encounter.
Coker says the reason behind the fight between Chandler and Primus not already happening is that the champion is to become a father soon.
“(Primus’) wife is having a baby, and we’re very respectful of that,” Coker said. “We’re waiting for him, and when he’s ready to re-engage, I think Chandler should be the first one.”
Recently, the champion in Primus, the former champion in Chandler and the perennial challenger in Pitbull had an exchange on Twitter in an attempt to settle things themselves.
@PatrickyPitbull congrats on the fight tonight man! You say I ran from you twice? I've signed the only contact I got to fight you-- #ready

The whole exchange ended with Pitbull challenging Chandler to a bout at Bellator 184.

There is no word yet on when the lightweight title bout between Primus and Chandler will take place, plus the future plans for Pitbull and his potential title shot.
