Staph Infection Knocks Patrick Cummins Off UFC 217

MMA

Kevin Lee may have fought at UFC 216 with staph, but the same cannot be said for Patrick Cummins because he has pulled out of the upcoming UFC 217 card due to a case of staph infection.

Cummins was set to fight fellow top 15 ranked light heavyweight Corey Anderson on the preliminary card of the event.

It was Cummins who announced his fight status through Instagram:

Anderson is expected to remain on the card at this time, as UFC officials are seeking a replacement for him to fight.

Anderson (9-3-0) has won just one of his last three fights, with that lone win coming over Sean O’Connell at UFC Fight Night 102. Anderson was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 19, defeating Matt Van Buren in the finals of the reality show.

UFC 217 takes place on Saturday, November 4 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
