Ever since Tyron Woodley defeated Robbie Lawler to win the UFC Welterweight Title at UFC 201, the discussion has been focusing on who the champion will be taking on next.
There is a whole slew of top contenders in the UFC Welterweight Division at the moment, with one of the most talked about names being Demian Maia. Maia is coming off of a huge submission win over former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit at UFC On Fox 21.
Woodley recently appeared on UFC veteran Din Thomas’s podcast, Morning Wood With Deez Nuts, the topic of Demian Maia’s submission game came up. Woodley responded to the talk about his rival’s ground game by saying…
“I’mma just bite him. I’mma bite him, let the referee get mad, (let him) take away a point, and I’m saying ‘whatever’. I’mma get back to my feet, and I’mma knock him down and make it even, then just make it ugly in the next few rounds. Let me tell you something, Maia, your a** ain’t getting on my back when we get ready to scrap. You can write that sh*t all day, you ain’t getting back there, bro.“
Woodley may have been having some lighthearted fun with Din Thomas, but a welterweight title fight between Woodley and Maia would be something all MMA fans are dreaming of. Woodley’s next title defense is not yet set in stone, but with top contenders like Maia, Stephen Thompson and Robbie Lawler lurking around, the champion sure does have some challengers to fight.
