Thiago Alves has been pulled from this weekend’s UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh event, a reason has yet to be given as to why the fighter is no longer on the card.
MMA Junkie first reported the story.
Alves was expected to fight Mike Perry at the event, the welterweight is expected to remain on the card as UFC officials are seeking a late notice opponent. Alves had also recently stated in an interview that he planned on staying in Florida as Hurricane Irma made landfall, there is no word yet on how that plan affect his status for the fight.
Perry (10-1-0) has already earned three victories under the UFC banner, having defeated the trio of Hyun Gyu Lim, Danny Roberts and Jake Ellenberger. Perry has only seen just one of his eleven professional MMA fights go the distance, that fight was a loss to Alan Jouban at UFC On Fox 22. Perry started his professional MMA career with a nine fight winning streak and the fighter earned nine finishes during that streak.
UFC Fight Night: Pittsburgh takes place on Saturday, September 16 from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with Luke Rockhold and David Branch headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
