Tony Ferguson became the UFC Interim Lightweight Champion when he got a submission win over Kevin Lee in the main event of UFC 216.
Color commentator Joe Rogan pointed out the staph that was visible on Lee’s chest and Ferguson had no issue attacking it.
“I wasn't sure what it was -- something protruding from his chest. I was like, 'Well sh*t, just aim for that sh*t,’” said Ferguson to TMZ.
Lee did admit after the event that he did contract a staph infection prior to the bout and he did his best to hide it from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
Despite his staph infection attacking game plan, the victorious Ferguson also admitted that he took a ton of showers when the fight was over with.
“(I took) like 50 showers” said Ferguson.
Shockingly, when the NSAC announced the medical suspensions list after the event, the staph infected Lee was on the list, but was only suspended a month and his infection wasn’t listed as a reason for it.
Ferguson his now putting his staph infected opponent in his rear view mirror is because his focus has now shifted his focus to a title unification bout against UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.
