TUF 26 Winner To Become First Ever UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion

MMA

Several years back, the UFC Ultimate Fighter 20 was used to crown the first ever UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion in Carla Esparza.

The UFC is going back to the well with the UFC Ultimate Fighter 26, as the promotion is going to crown their first ever UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion on the reality show.

In an interesting twist for the show, both fighters who aren’t signed to the UFC and those who are currently under a UFC contract can try out for the show.

This will be the fourth women’s championship in the UFC, as the promotion current has female champions at strawweight (Joanna Jedrzejczyk), bantamweight (Amanda Nunes) and featherweight (Germaine De Randamie).

Tryouts for the show are going to be held on Tuesday, May 23 at 8am PT at a location to be announced in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you wish to get more information on the tryouts, application and all, just click here.

It was also previously reported here on Fightful that women’s strawweight, women’s bantamweight and men’s middleweight fighters were going to be included on TUF 26, that obviously is no longer the plan going forward.

There has only been one women’s flyweight division fight thus far in the UFC, as Joanne Calderwood defeated Valerie Letourneau at UFC Fight Night 89.

No coaches have been announced for the show at this time, but filming is expected to take place in July and the show will be airing this coming winter.
