Tyron Woodley Critical Of Demian Maia Fighting Jorge Masvidal At UFC 211

UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley is going to defend the champion against an unnamed opponent this coming July.

Top contender Demian Maia is facing Jorge Masvidal at UFC 211, a fight that Woodley is critical of Maia for accepting in the first place.

Dark Side Of The Cage To Premiere In January, Will Cover Ronda Rousey, Matt Hughes, Kimbo Slice, More

“Unfortunately for Maia, he accepted the fight the week of me and Wonderboy’s fight. In my personal opinion, bad move. Wait and see how the fight went. If nobody came out of the fight hurt, a clear winner, not another draw, you’re already in a position to fight for a world title. Why would you put yourself up against the worst possible matchup outside of a title fight? Why would you put yourself in that position? I don’t want to call him stupid but damn that was stupid,” Woodley said on UFC Unfiltered.

The only two fighters that are ranked in the top five of the UFC Welterweight Division that Woodley hasn’t fought yet are Maia and Masvidal.

If a battle between Woodley and Maia ever came to fruition, the champion knows how he would pick up the win.

“If I fight him, he’s getting knocked out. He ain’t getting no takedown. It’s a sprawl, it’s a knockout,” says Woodley.

UFC 211 takes place on Saturday, May 13 from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas with Stipe Miocic and Junior Dos Santos headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast after the event.
