UFC 206 Gets New Main Event Title Fight, McGregor Vacates Title

MMA

UFC 206 has a new main event.

The December 10 show lost out on the Light Heavyweight main event when champion Daniel Cormier withdrew from his planned fight against challenger Anthony "Rumble" Johnson. The UFC attempted to book Johnson vs. Gegard Mousasi, but "Rumble" is opting to wait until Cormier returns from injury.

MMA Fighting has reported that Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis will be the new main event, and it will be for the interim UFC Featherweight Championship. The title is currently held by Jose Aldo, who is expected to be promoted to undisputed champion, while previous undisputed champion Conor McGregor vacated his championship, according to the UFC.

McGregor last fought at Featherweight last December, and doesn't look to return to the cage until next summer. He's not commented on the news of the title vacation.

The UFC also announced that Tim Kennedy vs. Kelvin Gastelum would happen, pending athletic commission approval, as Gastelum is under an administrative suspension in New York.

UFC 206 takes place December 10 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada.
