UFC 215 Flyweight Title Fight Canceled, Ray Borg Out

MMA

If you thought that booking a guy who had missed weight twice in his last four fights to headline a UFC pay-per-view was a bad idea, you would have been right as it relates to UFC 215.

Top Flyweight title contender Ray Borg is out of this Saturday's planned UFC 215 bout with 125-pound champion Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson. MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani broke the news that Borg was forced out of the fight Thursday evening due to an illness that was deemed by UFC doctors to be too severe to continue with the planned bout.

MMA Fighting says that the illness wasn't related to his weight cut. Borg had touted his new nutrition plan that had him walking around ten pounds lighter, and had less than ten pounds to cut before Friday's set of weigh ins.

Demetrious Johnson was looking to achieve his 11th consecutive Flyweight Title defense, which would have set a UFC record.

A UFC official told Fightful's Steven Muehlhausen "We've heard the reports and are getting the details now."

Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko will proceed as the event's headliner as of now. Former Flyweight Title contenders Henry Cejudo and Wilson Reis are competing on the UFC 215 card as well, but both are coming off of losses, and both have been soundly defeated by the champion Johnson.

UFC 215 emanates from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Fightful.com will have full, live coverage and discussion of the show, as well as a post-show podcast.
