UFC Matchmaker Joe Silva Leaving UFC

MMA

It appears as if Joe Silva will be leaving the UFC at the end of 2016.

According to MMA Junkie, the longtime UFC matchmaker Silva informed the UFC that he's finishing up with the company. This follows the UFC sale from the Fertitta brothers to WME-IMG. It has been reported that Silva earned money in that sale, as he's a UFC executive.

A source told Junkie that the UFC company sale and the money Silva earned from the deal was motivation for him to retire and spend more time with his family. Silva has worked for the UFC since 1995, when the UFC was owned by SEG. We're told that Silva's annual salary was well into the six figures.

Sean Shelby currently serves as the UFC matchmaker for the 115, 125, 135, and 145 pound divisions, and may get the first crack at the job as UFC's primary matchmaker. Shelby joined the UFC after the company merged with World Extreme Cagefighting.

No official announcement has been made regarding Silva's move.
