Interim TNT Champion Crowned At AEW Battle Of The Belts, Title To Be Defended On 1/12 AEW Dynamite

Sammy Guevara captures gold.

Guevara became the AEW Interim TNT Champion at AEW Battle of the Belts, defeating Dustin Rhodes in the opening contest on the night.

AEW International Title Bout Announced For AEW Full Gear

The back-and-forth bout featured Guevara kicking out of the Cross Rhodes, Dustin kicking out of GTH, and Dustin hitting a Canadian Destroyer through a table.

The finish featured a series of roll-up reversals that Guevara got the better of with a sunset pin to score the pinfall.

Guevara was originally scheduled to face Cody Rhodes for the AEW TNT Championship, but it was announced on Friday's AEW Rampage that Cody was not medically cleared and could not compete. As a result of his absence, the Interim AEW TNT Championship was created with Dustin being named the replacement opponent.

Cody later revealed that he and his wife Brandi are in isolation with family who tested positive for COVID.

It is unknown when the unification bout between Guevara and Cody will take place.

After the match, Guevara was confronted by Daniel Garcia, leading to a brawl between the two. In the next segment, it was announced that Garcia would challenge Guevara for the Interim TNT Title on the January 12 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Here is the updated lineup for Wednesday's AEW Dynamite:

AEW Dynamite (1/12/22)

  • CM Punk vs. Wardlow
  • Serena Deeb vs. Hikaru Shida
  • Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Dante Martin
  • AEW Interim TNT Championship: Sammy Guevara (c) vs. Daniel Garcia
