AJ Styles Recalls Staying Crotched On The Top Rope For SmackDown Dark Match, 'I Was Just Having Fun'

SmackDown Live was the AJ Styles era.

On a 2016 episode of SmackDown, AJ Styles sprung to the top rope in attempt to nail Dean Ambrose with a move. Instead, Ambrose clipped Styles, sending him groin-first into the rope.

Styles would end up staying on the ropes for quite a while, even after the show went off the air. This led to hilarious interactions with stars like John Cena, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins.

During a recent Fanatics live signing, Styles recalled the moment, saying that he simply thought it would be funny.

"I don’t know why I did that, I’m gonna be honest. I don’t know. I was feeling good. Not exactly the way you’d think, but I thought it would be funny if I stayed there the whole time. I don’t know that John was happy that I stayed there, but I did. I was just having fun. That’s what we’re supposed to do. What good is wrestling if you’re not having fun? I was having fun so I stayed there and let everybody enjoy it. No good reason. Just did."

Elsewhere in the interview, Styles recalled pitching a "Beat up John Cena" shirt during their feud. Learn more about his comments here.
