AJ Styles is the current reigning WWE United States Champion over on the Smackdown Live brand, but that didn't keep him from making an indy appearance on a rare weekend off Saturday night.
Styles showed up with WWE United States title in tow on an NWA Wildside reunion show. Styles spent much of the beginning of his career in NWA Wildside, where his feud with Air Paris caught WCW's eye. The two were both signed in early 2001 and placed in a tag team for the company's new cruiserweight tag team division.
Styles would stop and pose for pictures with several friends, throwing up the Bullet Club's "Too Sweet" hand gesture. WWE has been much more relaxed about their talent appearing and sometimes even wrestling on independent shows in recent years.
The WWE United States Championship will be up for grabs on Tuesday as Styles defends against Tye Dillinger. Fightful.com will have a post-show Podcast immediately following the Mae Young Classic Finals.
