Alberto El Patron (aka Alberto Del Rio) is heading back to MMA.
The former WWE Champion announced on The MMA Hour that he plans to fight for Combate Americas in 2019. El Patron is hoping for a "superfight" in Mexico City. He served as President of the promotion from Oct. 2016 to July 2017, helping promote the company in Mexico.
The 41-year-old last competed in MMA in 2010, losing by TKO to Yamamoto Hanshi. He competed twice in PRIDE, famously losing via head kick to Mirko Cro Cop and dropping a decision Kazuhiro Nakamura. His last victory was in Feb. 2010, a head kick win over Arthur Bart at Cage of Combat 3: San Vale Todo. He is 9-5 in his MMA career.
He recently made headlines for his comments about ex-fiance Paige and her brother. He last wrestled in August for ICWA, defeating Savio Vega in a Falls Count Anywhere contest. He was scheduled to be part of AAA's TripleMania XXVI on Aug. 25, but was pulled after a financial dispute.
