There's a new WWE United States Champion as Andrade defeated Rey Mysterio at the WWE live event at Madison Square Garden to win the title.
Andrade was owed a title shot as a result of his victory in the gauntlet match on the Dec. 16 episode of WWE Raw. The match ended with Andrade laying out Humberto Carrillo with a hammerlock DDT onto the exposed concrete. It seemed as if the bout was ruled a no contest, but WWE declared Andrade the winner on its website when issuing a medical update on Humberto in the days that followed.
Andrade put Mysterio away with a hammerlock DDT after thwarting Mysterio's splash attempt following a successful 619. This marks Andrade's first run with the WWE US Championship.
