Mercedes Martinez is back, and she confronted Athena.
In recent weeks, Athena has been displaying a new mean streak, and she has been increasingly aggressive. This pattern reached a new high on the November 18 episode of AEW Rampage. Athena faced Madison Rayne in a singles match and scored a decisive victory over the veteran.
She kept attacking Rayne after the bell, and she even attacked fan-favorite referee Aubrey Edwards when she tried to stop the assault.

With Edwards shockingly laid out, ROH Women's World Champion Mercedes Martinez came to the ring and prevented more violence. She confronted Athena, who backed down and left the ring.
Martinez had been sidelined for the past number of weeks; before her return at the November 16 taping of AEW Dark: Elevation, she hadn't wrestled since July. Her most recent televised match on AEW or ROH programming camr at ROH Death Before Dishonor, where she defeated Serena Deeb to retain her title.
