Ava has explained the nature of her relationship with Shawn Michaels and its origins.
For several weeks, Ava has acted as the bridge between Shawn Michaels and the other NXT Superstars. On the January 5 WWE NXT New Year's Evil special, Ava explained the origin of her new role in NXT, saying it all goes back to a "wise man."

"Well, it was brought to my attention a couple of months ago when a wise man told me that as the brand continues to grow, Shawn Michaels, he might need some help. That's where I come in. I have a unique relationship with the NXT roster. I have some of my own ideas. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't," she revealed.
Paul Heyman is known as the wise man of The Bloodline. As the daughter of The Rock and a cousin of Roman Reigns', Ava is a member of that prestigious family. Heyman was shown talking to Ava backstage on the October 10 episode of WWE NXT and the moment had yet to be referenced on NXT TV until New Year's Evil.
