Brian Myers Wants Edge To Be At Peace With His Career So He Can Walk Away When It's Time

Brian Myers discusses Edge's potential retirement.

On the August 18 episode of WWE SmackDown, WWE Hall of Famer Edge will face Sheamus, and the legend has said that the bout is the last match on his current contract. Myers has been friends with Edge for years, dating back to his WWE run as one of the Edgeheads alongside Zack Ryder (Matt Cardona).

In an interview with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Myers shared his thoughts on the rumors that Edge's in-ring career could be coming to an end. He stated that the legend's second WWE run has been icing on the cake after he was initially forced to retire.

"Of course, I’d be sad – I was devastated the first time he retired, I was devastated to the point of tears. I was literally crushed to the point of tears. So I think anything past that point where he thinks he was forced into retirement, I think this has just been icing on the cake if you will, to get some more Edge matches when you thought they were long gone," Myers said.

When asked whether he thinks Edge could be retiring following his match on August 18, Myers noted that he wasn't sure. He emphasized that he wants Edge to be at peace and comfortable with his career so he can be happy with himself when it is time to walk away.

"I don’t know what I think anymore, and I don’t think it matters. I want him to be at peace and comfortable with his career and his accomplishments, and be happy with himself to walk away when it’s time to walk away – if it is time to walk away," Myers said.

Myers also reflected on learning from Edge in the early days of his time with WWE. He noted that working closely with "The Rated-R Superstar" gave him and Matt Cardona a special education that few others in the industry have had.

"Matt and I, the experience that we got with Edge, I don’t think anyone in this business has ever had. I guess maybe you can count Cody [Rhodes] and Teddy [DiBiase Jr] when they were in Legacy as well because it was kind of like a mirrored experience. But to me, 2008, Edge, Adam Copeland is the best wrestler in the entire world and we literally followed him everywhere he went for a year, watched all of his matches from ringside, saw what it takes to be a top guy and a champion, day in and day out. An instrumental, life changing, life altering learning experience that we’ll forever be grateful for," he said.

Cardona recently commented on Edge's match against Sheamus and expressed his interest in facing the Hall of Famer. Click here to see what he had to say.
