Bryan Danielson is proud of Cody Rhodes and all he accomplished.
Bryan Danielson and Cody Rhodes have a longstanding relationship dating back to their time in WWE together. They were briefly in AEW together but not long enough to get another opportunity to work on screen with one another.
Now, with Cody in WWE and Bryan in AEW, Danielson says he's incredibly proud of everything Cody's accomplished as Cody looks to face Roman Reigns for the second year in a row at WWE WrestleMania XL in an attempt to wrestle away the Undisputed WWE Universal Title from Roman Reigns.
Speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Danielson revealed that he texted Cody a congratulatory message ahead of WrestleMania 39, and much like the rest of the world, he was deflated by the finish of the match between Roman and Cody.
“I texted Cody last year, just saying I was so proud of him and congratulations,” said Danielson. “Then the finish happened, and I was so mad.”
Danielson also revealed that Cody texted him after Danielson's Iron Man Match with Maxwell Jacob Friedman, MJF, at AEW Revolution 2023.
“I want what’s best for Cody. It’s no different with him. Cody texted me after my hour-long match against Max [MJF] and told me how much he loved it.
“There are plenty of friends from WWE who’ve reached out and complimented different things I’ve done in AEW. I’ve done the same for friends in WWE. I want my friends to succeed. We like the fact there are two competing companies. That’s good for wrestlers, and the wrestlers want each other to succeed.”
Danielson is no stranger to wrestling Roman Reigns. His last match in WWE was against Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. Danielson also came up short against Roman at the 2021 WWE Fastlane event and WWE WrestleMania 37 in a Triple Threat Match that also included Edge.
While Danielson and Cody may very well be friends, we can never really know how much of that is true because Bryan Danielson loves to lie since Cody Rhodes taught him how much fun that is.
