Bryan Danielson Thought He Was Going To Get A Match With Shawn Michaels In 2013-14, 'So Close'

Bryan Danielson comments on the match that never was against Shawn Michaels.

At WWE Hell in a Cell 2013, Shawn Michaels cost Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan in WWE) the WWE Championship in a bout against Randy Orton. Michaels, who was the special guest referee, superkicked Bryan in the match.

Bryan would get his revenge the following night on WWE Raw, putting Michaels in the Yes Lock.

A match between the two never happened, but Bryan thought it was close.

"The one [match] I’ve always wanted is Shawn Michaels, because he helped train me. There was a moment, a brief period of time, in 2013-14 when I thought I was going to get it but I didn’t. So close," Bryan told Danny Stone & Adam Cailler of the Daily Star.

Michaels retired after losing a Career vs. Streak match to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26 in 2010. He returned to the ring in 2018, teaming with Triple H to face Kane & The Undertaker at WWE Crown Jewel.

Bryan will be putting his career on the line at AEW All In against Swerve Strickland, who will stake the AEW World Title. Fans can check out the current lineup for the show by clicking here.
