Carmella Discusses How Her Career Has Changed Since The Summer Of 2017

Carmella reflects on the past year.

In June of 2017 Carmella had her running-mate James Ellsworth pull down the Money In The Bank briefcase for her in the first-ever Women's Money In The Bank Ladder match which was a decision that was neglected on a grand scale. The following Tuesday on SmackDown Live Carmella won the Money In The Bank contract herself and held onto the briefcase for ten months until she cashed it on the SmackDown coming out of WrestleMania 34 and defeated Charlotte Flair to become SmackDown Live Women's Champion.

Carmella has been reigning as champion since then and is heading into her fourth title defense on August 19th at SummerSlam against Becky Lynch. Ahead of a live event this Monday in Florida Carmella spoke with 'News-Press' and reflected on the year she has had dating back to capturing the Money In The Bank briefcase last summer.

"You know, a lot’s changed in a year. About a year ago is when I won the Money In The Bank contract and when I kind of put myself on the map, now being the champion, it solidifies all the hard work, and it’s also a testament to the Performance Center and all the hard work the trainers put in down there and the hard work I put in as well." She said. "That’s where you learn to hone your craft. I didn’t come from wrestling, and I never wrestled outside of WWE, so I’m kind of a homegrown talent. I learned everything from the Performance Center and NXT."

Carmella's running-mate James Ellsworth was recently '"fired" by SmackDown GM Paige. Our podcast crew reviewed James Ellsworth's firing on the post-SmackDown Live pod and to hear their thoughts on Paige showing the "Big Hog" the door, head over to Fightful's YouTube channel.
