Chris Jericho says that he doesn't want the brouhaha of a big final retirement match.
Chris Jericho is currently building towards the climax of a rivalry with Maxwell Jacob Friedman on AEW television building upon the five Labours of Jericho. The fourth “Labour'' will take place against Wardlow on tonight's episode of Dynamite in Pittsburgh
When promoting a match and appearing on the Bubba Show on a local Pittsburgh radio station, Chris Jericho stated that he does not care who he has his last match again and that all that matters to him is the level of importance in storylines.
“It doesn't matter to me, that sort of stuff, it doesn't matter. It's all storylines and it's all the angles that you're doing because this has been a really good time for you. One of the reasons why AEW has really gone through the roof and become the coolest wrestling company in the world today is because of our storytelling.”
He added, “So whenever I have the last match, who knows when that might be, it all depends on what the storyline is and what's going on at the time but I don't think I'm going to be one of those guys that have the last match and it's the big brouhaha and you know crying at the end of it as Jericho wipes the tears away, he goes, “Thank you for the memories.” I'm not that type of guy. I don't care about that sort of stuff. So, when I have my last match you may not even know it. It just depends as long as I can continue to perform at the highest of levels that I feel that I can. When I feel that I can't, then I will step aside, and when that is, who knows and who knows who that is going to be against.”
