Chris Jericho: Vince McMahon Told Me, ‘If There’s Anything You Don’t Want To Do, Just Tell Me’

Chris Jericho credits Vince McMahon for being open to talent rejecting ideas they are uncomfortable with.

Chris Jericho entered WWE in 1999. At the time, the Attitude Era was at its peak, and WWE was regularly pushing the envelope on television. Whether it was Mae Young giving birth to a hand or an incapacitated Stephanie McMahon unknowingly getting married to Triple H via a drive-through wedding chapel in Las Vegas, WWE's Attitude Era was filled with some memorable moments that are murky and questionable, at best, upon reflection.

During the recent episode of his Talk is Jericho podcast, Chris Jericho stated that, following Jericho's reaction to a segment where Mark Henry and Mae Young were shown to be in bed together, Vince McMahon told him it was okay to say no to any ideas he was uncomfortable with.

"I told Vince (McMahon) on the phone, they had just done this thing where Mark Henry had sex with Mae Young and I said, ‘Are you ever going to make me do anything like that because I don’t really feel comfortable doing the sexual stuff.’ ‘If there is anything you ever don’t want to do, just tell me, you don’t have to do it. We’ll never have you do anything like that anyway.’ To his credit, I never had to do anything that ridiculous. I don’t think I did anything that ridiculous."

Through the years, Chris Jericho would be stripped naked by Spike Dudley on television, win a championship match by playing a game of musical chairs, and be threatened with a spanking by Bob Barker. Still, he was never made to lay in bed with Mae Young.

Jericho did have an idea to call his Walls of Jericho submission hold "The STD" upon entering WWE. Learn more about that here.
