CM Punk still loves hearing his name, but it won't bring him back to wrestling.
Appearing on WGN PrimeTime, Punk was asked what it would take to bring him back to professional wrestling. Punk revealed that he would need "a time machine" for him to return. Punk's last appearance on WWE television came at the Royal Rumble in 2014.
Despite being off television for nearly five years, "CM Punk" chants still echo throughout WWE arenas. Fans recently chanted for the retired wrestler on SmackDown after Shane McMahon was announced as the "Best in the World" following his WWE World Cup victory at Crown Jewel.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Punk said about the chants, “You stop it and five years later people still talk about you? Fans still chant your name? That’s powerful to me.” In the same interview, when asked about returning to wrestling, he said, “I don’t pay attention. People seem to get upset when I say that.”
Cody Rhodes reportedly made an offer to Punk for him to appear at All In on Sept. 1 in Chicago. However, Punk refuted the claim that an official offer was made.
Punk has transitioned full-time to MMA since retiring from wrestling, going 0-2 as a UFC fighter. He recently signed a deal to become an announcer for Cage Fury Fighting Championships.
