CM Punk Comments On Jeff Hardy's 'DUI Arrest' Angle From 5/29 SmackDown

CM Punk responds to the Jeff Hardy DUI angle

The May 29 episode of WWE SmackDown started with an angle that played on Jeff Hardy's history with substance and demons. Elias was the victim of a hit-and-run and “authorities” on the scene found the car belonging to Jeff Hardy before finding Jeff in a seemingly inebriated state.

Kurrgan Has No Interest In Returning To Wrestling

WWE provided an in-character update of Jeff Hardy around the time that Smackdown went off the air, saying that Jeff Hardy was found to be completely sober after taking a sobriety test.

From WWE:

WWE Digital has learned Jeff Hardy was released from custody by the Orlando police after successfully passing the required sobriety tests, therefore absolving Hardy of the charges of public intoxication, driving under the influence, and the hit-and-run on Elias earlier tonight.

Elias was found injured in the parking lot with an abandoned car nearby before Friday Night SmackDown began. Hardy was taken into custody after being found in a dazed state not far from the scene, but he reemerged as Sheamus battled Daniel Bryan in the night's final match.

CM Punk, a man who actually ended Jeff Hardy's mid-2000s run in WWE back in 2009 in an angle that also played upon Jeff's demons, has responded to this opening angle via Twitter. Punk found the whole thing humorous, we're marking that the person portraying an officer should win a Slammy.

When asked if the segment made him want to wrestle again, Punk jokingly remarked that he is divided but he doesn't take the wrestling industry so seriously anymore and that the segment actually entertained him.

CM Punk can be seen on WWE Backstage on FS1. He will be on the show on June 2, reuniting with his old frenemy, Daniel Bryan.
