CM Punk Responds To Will Ospreay: I Don't Want To Give People False Hope, But He Interests Me

After winning the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at NJPW Sakura Genesis, Will Ospreay made a couple of bold challenges in his first press conference as champion.

Ospreay called out former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre for a match and retired former WWE Champion CM Punk.

Ospreay said about Punk, "Before I was champion, a man who sparked a whole lot of interest in pro-wrestling, CM Punk said he’d like to face Will Ospreay. Now I have the biggest prize in pro-wrestling, so if you really want to prove you were the best in the world and not the best of a bad bunch, come over here and try and take this."

Though Punk hasn't wrestled since 2014 and has repeatedly downplayed a return to the ring, he spoke with Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy about a potential match with Ospreay.

Punk said about facing Ospreay, "I don't want to give people false hope in answering Ospreay. But he's for sure somebody that I've never wrestled before that interests me a lot more than, I guess, the corporate side of professional wrestling nowadays. New and different things are going to interest me more than doing the same old, same old. I always need new goals. I don't know. Let's see if he has it at the end of the summer and then ask me the question again."

Ospreay is set to defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Title against Shingo Takagi on May 4 at night two of NJPW Wrestling Dontaku.

Punk previously stated that he doesn't believe the wrestling world necessarily needs him and isn't interested in facing Triple H. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
