CMLL says they are excited to explore to explore future opportunities together with AEW.
As previously announced, CMLL World Historic Middleweight Champion Mistico will make his AEW debut on the October 20 episode of AEW Rampage (which will be taped on October 18), as he will face Rocky Romero. The match announcement sparked some buzz, as AEW has typically worked with AAA, CMLL's rival promotion in Mexico.
On October 13, CMLL took to social media and issued a statement about the upcoming match. In the statement, CMLL noted that both companies are excited to explore future opportunities together.
The statement (translation via Luis Pulido) is as follows:
CMLL is happy to announce & confirm the participation of current CMLL World Middleweight Champion Mistico in a one-on-one match against Rocky Romero on AEW Rampage, hoping for this to be an exciting start of a new era between two of the biggest companies in Wrestling worldwide.
This collaboration between CMLL & AEW is focused on not just bringing a unique experience for the fans, but impulse the growth & promotion of wrestling around the world as both companies share a common vision in taking the sport to new horizons & are excited to explore future opportunities together.
AEW CEO Tony Khan then commented on the statement in a post of his own. Khan stated that working with CMLL was "so cool." He then thanked the company as he expressed AEW's excitrement about the collaboration with the October 18 taping of AEW Rampage.
