Cody Rhodes claims to be working hurt.
At a WWE event in Bloomington, Illinois on June 22, 2024, Cody Rhodes defended his WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event of the show. After he successfully vanquished his old foe, Rhodes addressed the Bloomington audience and gave them some "breaking news" straight from his mouth before they could hear it from anyone else.
Cody would claim that he suffered two broken ribs during the June 21 SmackDown and said that WWE wanted to give him the night off from competing in Bloomington, the night off from competing in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and even the night off from the June 28 WWE Friday Night SmackDown in Madison Square Garden. However, a fighting champion, Cody's answer was an emphatic, "Hell no."
