Cody Rhodes On Leaving AEW For WWE: You Have To Be Like Batman And Have A Plan For The Plan For The Next Plan

Cody Rhodes discusses his mindset when leaving AEW for WWE and beginning to tease the move.

On February 15, 2022, Cody and Brandi Rhodes announced that they were leaving AEW, the professional wrestling organization that they helped found. Cody would return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 that year and headline the next two WrestleMania events, winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XL.

Recently, Cody Rhodes appeared on Mostly Sports with Mark Titus and Brandon Walker and reminisced about a previous interview with Walker in which he teased his move to WWE by saying that wrestling fans wouldn't believe the next move he would make.

When asked if he had foreseen everything that would come his way, Rhodes admitted that he might have been a little too brash with his language because it could have proven to not live up to the hype, but he did say he had to be like Batman and have a plan for a plan for a plan.

Ultimately, he's glad he got everything he wanted and much more than he could have ever anticipated.

"Not that I had it in mind, but you do have to be kind of like Batman, in a sense that you have to have a plan for the plan for the next plan, and the road looked like it was heading that way," he said. "Also, at the time, I really was torn. One thing was my baby, and something that I've very much loved, and was part of its inception and the origin, and was so lucky to have those guys with me be part of that. But then the other is your destiny calling you, fate, and what you do next. That was just a tricky spot to be in, and incredibly, I'm never gonna forget it, Brandi told me, and I almost get choked up thinking about it, but she just said,' Be careful what you wish for.' Then what I wished for, plus a million, came true. But that was a heck of a day.

"I think I was speaking a little bit out of turn, saying, 'You're not going to believe it,' because that could have been anything. That could have just been wrestling being wrestling. It could have been anything. But I'm happy that my words were correct in the sense that it was going to be a move that was good for the industry."

Cody Rhodes now heads into his fourth consecutive WrestleMania main event as he defends the WWE Championship against John Cena. Win, lose, or draw, this will be Cena's last WrestleMania ever.

Cody Rhodes plans to tap into another superhero, Super Cena, when the bell rings in Las Vegas. Learn more about his mindset here.
