Cody was, of course, the person who debuted the prior design which were they take on the 1980s belt design, which Cody grew up watching.
Now that he is the Executive Vice President of AEW, some fans are speculating that the reason WWE got rid of the old design is to get rid of any of Cody‘s remaining legacy in WWE.
Cody responded to one fan on Twitter suggesting this and he is actually in favor of the new design. Cody feels that this is just a sign that times are changing and is hopeful that this new belt design will have fond memories attached to it as well.
Unlikely. Probably just time for a change. All good things and such...

I’m sure this one will have great moments/wrestlers attached to it just like the older one. https://t.co/BR4FrG8NW3
Currently, you can see Cody on TNT every Wednesday for AEW Dynamite. As for the Intercontinental Championship, it is currently held by Shinsuke Nakamura and he can be seen every Friday on the Fox Network for Friday Night SmackDown.
