Cody Rhodes, the top draft pick for WWE Raw, has found a role that fits.
In the 2023 WWE Draft, WWE Raw selected Cody Rhodes with their first pick after SmackDown took Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, and Paul Heyman first overall. Since his move to the red brand, Rhodes has feuded with Brock Lesnar and captured the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship with Jey Uso. He is coming off a big win at WWE Crown Jewel, where he defeated Damian Priest.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Rhodes commented on his current run in WWE and his role as one of the faces of Raw. He noted that dreaming playing quarterback is one thing, but experiencing it is special.
“When you grow up wanting to play quarterback, you work for it and envision it, but experiencing it is almost out of body. I’m very lucky. I’m a slow learner, but it feels like I have found clothes that fit: the American Nightmare’s clothes," Rhodes said.
Looking ahead to the November 6 episode of WWE Raw, Rhodes pointed out his status as the red brand's top draft pick and encouraged any fans who fell away from WWE to check out what all the fuss is about.
“I wouldn’t miss it. I was the first pick in the draft for Raw. I think the long-time wrestling fan is loyal and always watching, but if you’re somebody who fell out and are hearing about this wild golden age we’ve entered, come find out what all the fuss is about," he said.
In the same interview, Rhodes called Jey Uso a superb teammate and noted that he'd have to ask him what inning they're in. Check out his comments here.
Fightful will have live coverage of WWE Raw as it airs on November 6, as well as a post-show podcast on our YouTube channel.
