Danhausen was sidelined for the majority of 2023 after suffering a torn pec in March. He returned in November to reunite with Trent Beretta, Orange Cassidy, and HOOK.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Danhausen revealed he was supposed to return a bit sooner.
"I did the Halloween 3 segments. I was like, ‘I want to do something fun for Halloween. I can come back from [a torn pec],’ I think it was fine in October, but it was, ‘give it another month.’ I was like, ‘We can air these Halloween 3-style annoying commercials until I come back.’ ‘Cool.’ Then, it just didn’t happen. That kind of sucked the air out of the return a little, at least for me it did. It was built for Halloween, and I could have came back the next week, and I just didn’t. It took a little more time and then I did come back on Thanksgiving.
"I come out and I want to wrestle. Non-wrestlers might know this. Wrestling hurts, but it hurts less if you do it more. Your body gets calloused to it. If you’re wrestling once every couple of months, it sucks. Every single time it feels like the first time going to wrestling school where it’s the worst. Your body is also more susceptible to injury because you’re not used to getting slammed or weird movements. I prefer to wrestle once a week, whether it be a dark match, a true dark match where it’s not filmed. Then it’s not, ‘Oh shit, I haven’t wrestled in three months,’ and I haven’t wrestled and I’m not in ring shape anymore. I don’t have a wrestling ring near where I live at all. [Indie bookings] keep me sharp and keeps me creative, because there are some creative laws in the indies. You’re not doing storylines generally, so it’s more so matches. I have to have my creativity outlet be the promos that I do and figure out ways to do the match different and have fun with the crowd. That’s why I do two to three a week so I can stay in ring shape and not get injured."
Danhausen only wrestled once on AEW/ROH TV in 2024, but remained active on the independent scene, competing for GCW, DEFY, REVOLVER, and more independent promotions.
Elsewhere during the interview, Danhausen discussed his return at ROH Final Battle 2024. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
