Dominik Mysterio chose to keep kayfabe alive after his match with his father, Rey Mysterio, at WWE WrestleMania 39.
All of Dominik Mysterio's WrestleMania moments have been either alongside or across the squared circle from his father.
In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Mysterio reveals that his family invited him to dinner following the match, but in true pro wrestler fashion, Dom kept kayfabe and turned down a nice family dinner for a street hot dog and the night at his hotel.
“I just beat the fuck out of him. I wasn’t going to dinner with him. So I had a street hot dog and spent the night in my hotel,” said Mysterio. “I was raised on that old-school love of the business. That’s a big part of our family dynamic. We have a lot of respect for the Mysterio name and this sport.
“I’m carrying lineage, my family, and history on my shoulders. My six godfathers, who are all legends, I’m not going to let them down.”
One such legend is the late, great Eddie Guerrero. Dominik briefly got to work in a program with Guerrero and his father as an 8-year-old boy. All these years later, Dominik Mysterio says that Eddie Guerrero planted the seeds for his career.
“Not everyone can say they worked with Eddie,” said Dominik. “I hear people say, ‘My dream match would be Eddie Guerrero.’ Shit, mine too. Looking back, just sharing the ring with him, it’s an honor.
“Eddie helped plant the seed in 2005 that this was what I was going to do,” adds Mysterio. “I’m very blessed to have known him, and I am always grateful to keep his memory alive.”
Mysterio is currently sidelined with an injury with no definitive date for his return.
