Drew McIntyre says Triple H dialed him back a bit.
CM Punk suffered a torn triceps at WWE Royal Rumble. On the January 29th episode of WWE Raw, Drew McIntyre cut a heated promo and said he prayed for the injury. The promo launched the feud between McIntyre and Punk to new levels, and it has continued to heat up ever since.
Speaking with Sam Roberts ahead of WWE SummerSlam (via Notsam Wrestling), Drew McIntyre was askes about the "I prayed for this, and it happened" line, and he revealed that he initially took it a step further.
"I actually went a step further, and between Triple H and I, we got it where we felt like we wouldn’t offend a lot of people. I had it a little further than that, and Triple H dialed me back slightly, and we landed there," McIntyre said with a laugh.
McIntyre was also asked about Punk's comment about how being involved in a storyline was a big deal, and he replied by saying that he kept Punk relevant while he was out injured. He noted that he justified Punk's paycheck, as he helped made sure that people were excited for Punk's in-ring return.
“That’s one way to look at it because he’s right. He is a gigantic name. But at the same time, I would say to him, he’s been out for seven months. As big a name as he is, if it was anybody else in my position that couldn’t do their job like me or didn’t have the same feelings I had, did I not make him and keep him relevant and justify the big check that he’s been making the whole time so people are actually excited to see him come back and have this gigantic match at a stadium show? Does it not work both ways? Egotistical prick," McIntyre said.
McIntyre went on to defeat Punk at WWE SummerSlam, as Punk was distracted by special referee Seth Rollins.
