Drew McIntyre wouldn't mind getting those initial crowd reactions at WrestleMania 37.
Speaking with Wrasslinews, McIntyre was asked about his placement on the card at the annual spectacular, clarifying that he would be fine either opening or closing the show. While yes, the main event spot is generally where you'd like to be, after a year without fans, being the first one out in front of a live audience could be special. He said the following:
"I would be happy opening the show or closing the show. This year's so unique in the sense that, you know, the last match -- every match at WrestleMania is a main event, let's be realistic. If you're on WrestleMania, you're in a main event. When you're fighting for the Championship, generally, it's cool to close the show. This is such a unique WrestleMania, without having the fans there for an entire year, that first reaction is going to be so, so special. So that's why I said, 'If I finish last, if I'm in that last match, that's phenomenal, that's fantastic, that's tradition. But if I'm in that opening match, to me, that's also -- it's just as big because if you get to walk out in that first match and get the crowd full of energy, all those pent up reactions that we've been keeping inside for a year, that's going to be special too, so either way, I'm happy."
Drew is scheduled to challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship on night one of WrestleMania 37. Drew dropped the title to The Miz at Elimination Chamber after Lashley helped him cash in his Money in the Bank contract. The Hurt Business member took the belt from Miz just one week later on Monday Night Raw.
McIntyre is set to face King Corbin on the go-home show to WrestleMania, after the SmackDown Superstar attacked him at the end of last week's show, helping to soften him up for the WWE Champion. Lashley will also be in action on April 5 as he takes on his former Hurt Business running mate, Cedric Alexander.
The other major Championship match scheduled for that night is Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair fighting for the SmackDown Women's Title. The full card for the event can be seen here.
Fightful will have live coverage of WrestleMania 37 on both Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11, 2021.
