Eddie Kingston became one of the top independent wrestlers in the world before being signed by AEW during the pandemic.
Kingston would continue to take independent bookings while signed with AEW.
Speaking to Will Turner on Wrestling with the Narrative, Kingston was asked if he still keeps up with the independent scene.
“I try to keep up with it because I do plan on going back to the independents before I’m done. Just one more ride around, you know what I mean? Especially if my stupid name does anything to help these promotions, I would love it. I would love to go back to Chicago for AAW, Ohio for AIW, definitely DEFY, PROGRESS, Rev Pro, Glory Pro, my dudes in Atlanta tearing it up at AWE. There’s a bunch, I’m probably forgetting [some], I apologize, but yeah there’s a bunch of places I want to go back to. When I say it’s time to go, I would like — my dream scenario is ending my career in Japan but doing my last little indie loop just to say thank you and then disappear," he said.
Asked about Mad Dog Connelly, Kingston replied, “I’ve heard of him. I have not seen, but I know Joseph has put him over to me. I’ve seen other people put him over and you know what, I definitely do have to get it checked out with him. I would like to get in there with him, definitely for sure.
“Also, what’s the kid’s name, Priest? [Adam Priest], I’ve heard about. Yeah, I’d like to get in the ring with those guys. Whoever else, I may ask you when it’s time or Joseph and be like, ‘Hey, who are the indie guys I should I get in there with?’ Test myself. I’m not going to go in there to plan to lose, but alright, let me see what the young dogs got.”
Kingston is currently sidelined following a knee injury suffered in May 2024. He is currently rehabbing after undergoing surgery.
