In 2008, Fox Searchlight Pictures released 'The Wrestler' starring Mickey Rourke. The film helped revive Rourke's career, with his performance netting him a nomination for Best Actor at the 81st Academy Awards.
And Hulk Hogan could have played a part in the film according to Eric Bischoff.
"He had the opportunity," said Bischoff on 83 Weeks. "I met with [Director] Darren [Aronofsky]. He wanted to meet with me about being in the movie as well. Ernest The Cat Miller was in the movie. Darren reached out to a lot of people in the industry. Early on, he did reach out to Hulk. I think there were two scripts, I could be wrong. They sent Hulk a script. Here's the challenge when you read scripts; unless you're experienced and used to it and your brain process it in a certain way, you don't really get the clear picture in your head. You can't see the scenes the way the writer is trying to communicate them. Hulk probably looked at the script and probably went, 'Eh, I don't want to play a broken-down old guy, I am a broken-down old wrestler. I don't want to play one.' He was trying to run away from reality, not embrace it at that point. He did pass on it."
It is unknown what role Hogan would have played in the film.
Along with Ernest Miller, wrestlers such as Necro Butcher, Robert Stone, Cesaro, Larry Sweeney, and Jay Lethal were also in the film.
