Exclusive: Stevie Ray Goes In-Depth About The 'Harlem Heat' Name And Who Pitched It

Stevie Ray reveals the origins of the name 'Harlem Heat'.

Former WCW star Stevie Ray was a part of one of the most recognizable and decorated tag teams in the history of World Championship Wrestling along with his brother Booker T. While the duo were together they captured the WCW World Tag Team Championships ten times. Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp had the opportunity to speak with Stevie Ray about a wide variety of topics, and Stevie Ray even dove into how he and Booker T were the ones who pitched the name 'Harlem Heat' but creative and WWE Hall Of Famer Dusty Rhodes had other names set for the duo.

Matt Cardona Not Under Contract To AEW

"No, actually we pitched it. Actually we pitched it but they wanted want to… I remember somebody wanted to to call us ‘Chicago Heat’, and I think it might have been Dusty Rhodes, and a few other names came up but we were like ‘No, we like Harlem Heat’." He continued. “Me and my brother [were] pretty stern about trying to have as much control of our carers as possible, and that was one of the things we are… you know, I can’t remember how. When they were coming up with names for us, me and my brother we were always pitched from 110th Street in Harlem, so we were like ‘No, we like Harlem Heat’. And I guess they seen we were kind of stern on that were like ‘Okay, we’ll go with Harlem Heat then'. That’s how it pretty much happened."
