Alec Price reflects on his WWE tryout.
In late 2021, a number of wrestlers like Thea Hail, Roxanne Perez, Joshua Bishop, and Alec Price all took part in a tryout session for WWE.
Unfortunately, Price walked away from the tryout without a contract. Since then, the 'Prize City O.G.' has only leveled up his game on the independent scene, even holding the IWTV World Championship for months in 2023.
In a recent interview with Jeremy Lambert and Stephen Jensen with Fightful Overbooked's Spotlight podcast, Alec Price reflected on the tryout and stated that WWE had a certain criteria at the time.
"It was a great tryout. I was the first one when they first started going after athletes, primarily. It was a blessing to be there, and thank you WWE for having me. I think it was a criteria at the time where it was six feet, 200 pounds, and I was half the criteria. I was definitely the smallest person at the tryout when it came to all the males. Me and Bishop knew each other, but we didn’t really know each other. We had just seen each other in locker rooms. I’m sitting there and a little sad because I didn’t know anyone. ‘Fuck. This is going to be tough as shit.’ It’s already a tough week because I’m trying out for the top wrestling promotion in the world, but I also don’t know anyone. All of a sudden, I see from the corner of my eye, this big Brock Sampson looking guy, looking like Sid Vicious. I go, ‘Dude.’ ‘Dude.’ We gave each other a big hug, 629 crew. It was lit. Josh is my dog, the tryout was great. The athletes there were good. They had athletes that are still signed right now, as far as I know. Roxanne [Perez] was at my tryout. [Thea Hail] was at my tryout. A lot of people at my tryout got signed. Good on them. I’m happy for them. It was a life changing experience because you never really know what they want until you’re there and you see, ‘Okay, this is what they are maybe looking for.’ I’ve heard stuff changes all the time up there. They could want this now and want something different later. That’s how people are when they want flavors of ice cream. Wrestling fans might want this, it’s a cool spot, and a month later, ‘I’m not into this spot anymore. This spot is better.’ Just flavors of ice cream and it was just great to be down there. ‘This is what I could do to possibly get here one day.’ I would love to be there. It’s WWE everyone wants to be there. People who say they don’t want to be there are liars. I’m doing everything in my possible power to make sure one day I will be there. I love the indies, but I’ve always wanted to be signed. I feel like I’m ready for TV wrestling or could be ready for TV wrestling."
Elsewhere in the interview, Price talked at length about the WWE ID program. Check out his full comments by clicking here.
