TNA/IMPACT Wrestling is set to hit 1000 episodes on Thursday, September 9.
Over the years, the company has become known for its out of the box thinking with gimmick matches, including the infamous reverse battle royal, where competitors had to fight to get into the ring instead of tossing their opponents over the top and out.
At IMPACT 1000, IMPACT will bring back Ultimate X, which debuted in 2003 and became a staple of the company, and Feast or Fired, where wrestlers fight for four briefcase with rewards ranging from titles shots to a pink slip.
Appearing on In The Weeds, IMPACT World Champion Alex Shelley commented on the originality of IMPACT gimmick matches.
"I love all the TNA original matches. Feast or Fired, reverse battle royal, Terrordome, Ultimate X. I think all those matches are awesome. They are unorthodox and they challenge you in different ways as a wrestler, which is what I enjoy most about it. In the Feast or Fired match, because of the nature, I had Sabin [Chris Sabin] and that was massive. You typically saw the tag teams excel a little more in those types of situations. Lethal Consequences, Rock N Rave Infection, LAX, the tag teams get a bit more when they're working together," said Shelley.
Shelley competed in the 2008 Feast or Fired match, but did not come away with a briefcase.
Elsewhere during the interview, Shelley had praise for one-half of the IMPACT Tag Team Champions Trey Miguel. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
