Dann Read explains how Alex Windsor vs Jamie Hayter came together.
Last month, it was announced that at Pro Wrestling EVE's Multiverse Rumble event on February 7th, Jamie Hayter would be returning to the promotion to take on Alex Windsor in singles action.
In a new interview with Fightful, Pro Wrestling EVE's promoter Dann Read explained how the match between Hayter and Alex Windsor came together.
"Oh, Jamie's a mate. Jamie, I remember when she started in AEW and there was this press conference and, you know, it was, I forget where it was, but she spoke about Eve and she mentioned it's her home promotion. This was... we're just always simple. It's going to happen. It's just, it worked out. We're going to be releasing it. By the time this goes out, there'll have been a video that we released showing Jamie Hayter through the years. So it's not like there was this big, long process, because we go way back. Like I say, Jamie treats and considers Eve her home, like a lot of wrestlers from that era, because a lot of people don't realize what wrestling was like. We're so fortunate the business is so much further ahead now than it was, even though it still has a long way to go still, that those who were around then, because they know what it was like before. There's a different kind of relationship there between us and the OG cast. So she's excited. That's the other thing. I don't think she'll be.. I know that we're saying this, like she's super excited. This match between her and Alex Windsor, Jamie asked me for it. Alex asked me for it. They both want this match. So it was just, alright, so we just needed to find a way for the creative to kind of line up. Keep it simple, because realistically, what more of a story do you need? You just kind of need to have the dates and everything else line up. You don't need more of a story, really, than what there is on its basic fundamentals, because these two never wrestled before. Because Alex was injured for a long while. When Alex was injured, and of course she had her son, and when Alex was off, that's when Jamie Hayter's rise happened. Then when Alex came back, that's just as Jamie Hayter went to AEW. So these two amazing performers just missed each other. Even though they technically were around at the same time, they just missed each other. So the fact that we're getting to do this for the first time and it's a match that they're pairing and want, that's the thing I always keep saying to people. Forget what you want and realize they want it. So as much as you want, and think about yourself, how much you want to see this match. Imagine being the people that want this match themselves. There's a difference between you wanting to see something and you wanting to be a part of something. We don't want to see it. That's where our excitement is. They want to be a part of it. They want to make it happen. So imagine where they're feeling, what they're feeling right now and where their heads are. Both of them are nervous, but both of them are excited."
Hayter has not competed in Pro Wrestling EVE since February 2020.
