Darby Allin says that his glass spot at AEW Revolution didn't feel as bad as it looked.
Allin is known for his death-defying stunts and high octane moves, but that doesn't mean that fans weren't concerned when Allin dove off a ladder and went crashing through a pane of glass at AEW Revolution.
As it turns out, the spot wasn't nearly as bad for Allin as it looked on screen. While speaking to Fightful for a new interview, Allin talked about the spot and how he had a backup plan if things ended up going sideways.
"The glass in Sting’s last match. When I jumped off the ladder and went through the glass. The referee came up to me, ‘Darby, you good?’ ‘Yeah, that was awesome.’ They’re like, ‘Shit, you’re not good. You have a hole in your side.’ ‘What?’ [Shows off scar.] I felt fine. He was like, ‘No, you have a hole in your side.’ I told him, ‘I literally have one more spot in this match.’ We also had a plan B. I told everybody in the match, ‘There is a plan B if, for whatever reason, I cannot finish this match because of this stunt. We have a plan B for the finish.’ Besides the hole in my side. I felt fine. I didn’t know there was a hole in my side."
Allin went on to note that the backup plan in the match featured Sting winning the bout by himself.
"Literally just Sting winning the match by himself. I believe it was the TK Driver set up, that’s when I originally popped up and pushed off one of the Bucks through the table. Literally it was, slip the TK Driver, push the Buck into the other the Bucks, he flies through the table, sell back, death drop, kick out, scorpion. It’s literally the same thing minus Darby Allin popping up from the dead."
Allin also went on to speak about how he felt like he needed to do something to take him out of the match so Sting could fight a two on one battle during the match.
"I just felt like I needed to do something. Everybody has seen Darby go through so much crazy shit. The whole premise of the match was Sting fighting this two on one battle. You get the iconic Sting no-sell and him fighting from underneath. I was like, ‘I need to do something that is reasonable as to why Darby Allin can’t be in this match right now’ because everybody has seen me do so much. That’s the only reason I was like, ‘I need to do this. I need to do this.’ It worked out. At the end of the match, Sting came up to me and said, ‘That’s easily in my top three favorite matches of whole career.’ That’s all I could ask, to make sure that man’s career ended with the respect it deserved and he was happy about his life’s work coming to an end. It was an amazing night."
